30 Clean Energy Policies by 2030 for the City of Decatur

With all the new construction in our city, why is there no solar on any of our new buildings?

It’s a question we should try to answer. But if we are to make a just transition to clean energy for our city by 2030, then we first need to change the way we think and act.

The City’s role in the transition is to lead. For example, by implementing an aggressive clean energy plan to convert city buildings to be more energy efficient, to add clean and renewable energy sources, and to convert our city fleets to electric vehicles. But the City’s actual impact on the carbon pollution we generate is small compared to our residential and commercial sectors.

So the City must play another role. It must influence residential and commercial sectors through policy, finance, incentives, and regulation.

All In for Decatur 100 has developed a list of 30 policies for 2030 that the City of Decatur can implement to drive our transition to 100% clean energy. You can see these policies and download them here. Many are taken from what others cities are successfully implementing. We are currently evaluating each for their investment, their impact and their ease of implementation. These are just a few from dozens upon dozens of potential ideas we can develop when we unleash our collective creativity.

Our efforts to slow the climate crisis and provide a clean safe environment for our kids, our families, and our community are up to us. Imagine that the next new building in Decatur has solar. Thanks for all you do.
